Na Pali Challenge | Garden Island Canoe Racing Association

Na Pali Challenge

Aloha & E Komo Mai!

The Date is August 4 at 8:00 am, the Garden Island Canoe Racing Association is proud to be hosting the 2013~16th Annual Na Pali Challenge.

Each year paddlers from the Hawaiian Islands and abroad gather on  Kauai for this unique race. It is an opportunity for kane (men) & wahine (women) to come together for a race down the enchanting Na Pali Coast. Each team consists of 6 kane and 6 wahine. The two teams take turns in the canoe, making water changes every 30 minutes.

The race starts in the beautiful town of Hanalei on the North Shore. With a Le-Mans start, the teams are off to make it around the Na Pali. On the way down, the  teams will pass some of the most beautiful  coastline in Hawaii, going past majestic cliffs, sea caves and arches. You will come around the West Side of the island with the finish at Waimea Pier for a distance of 39 miles.

All crew members are treated to an ono lunch with the awards ceremony to follow.

We hope you can join us this year, and if you need any information, need help arranging to borrow canoes or getting an escort boat, just contact us. We will be glad to help you out!
